Treating Depression With Love And Understanding
There is no better way for treating depression other
than with love. In order to understand why love is one of the most
important factors in the cure and treatment of depression, let us look
at how the depressed person might be feeling in the first place.
The Profile Of A Depressed Person
The person who is depressed feels worthless, without any self-esteem,
useless, guilty of real and imaginary situations and slights; he/she
ceases to love life because they see no reason for it. They do not want
to continue living and sometimes they attempt suicide and succeed, or
simply want to die, or fade away from the face of the earth.
They will not respond to the normal care and attention of the family and
friends. They need to feel a bit extra important; they need to feel the
center/ the focus of someone’s existence. This role can be fulfilled by
only one or max two persons, i.e. mother and spouse. It is extremely
difficult treating depression when the person in question does not
cooperate. It is frustrating, it is scary and it is very slow.
If you want to hurry the results of treating depression a little bit,
try gifting the depressed person with a small animal. It could be
anything from a squirrel to a cat or a dog. Give it at least 7-10 days
for the bonding to take place, and then you will see the improvement
that your efforts in treating depression will give.
You will be stunned at how fast the depressed person leaves behind
his/her depression and basks in the love of the new pet. There is some
type of magic in the love of a pet; maybe its unconditional love infuses
the will to live back into the person who stopped valuing life a while
ago.
Treating depression is tedious and slow; however, the reward you get
when you win back our dear one from the clutches of death is a great
feeling. There is a warning here, though. Once the person has been
exposed to depression, he/she will always be in danger of slipping right
back into it. This is something like alcoholics anonymous – the therapy
works, but you are always in danger of slipping back in case you are
again faced with a serious crisis.
Your treating depression successfully will very much be dependent upon
the bonding with the pet and the support he/she gets from home.
